"The building is a body, arched chest cavities, painted bones and skin. These spaces bcome bodies for time to walk through, thresholds designed for us to note transitions”
—Theo Hynan Ratcliffe, Eidectic Witness, Bloomers Magazine Issue 04: Out of Body.

Bloomers Magazine was founded in February 2018. Its initial premise was to be a bi-annual printed publication that discusses the work of emerging female artists based in Ireland. It has since developed into an art collective that collaborates to produce the printed publication, related events and projects such as Bloomers Zine Stall. By documenting moments that benchmark how emerging female artists are responding to certain themes or what their interests are as a group, Bloomers goal is to provide a platform for these artists to learn about one another and to be learned about by the public.

To celebrate the launch of Issue 04: Out of Body, Bloomers presents an evening of talks lead by Enid Conway (Creative Director of Bloomers) and Kim Crowley (Editor of Out of Body). Out of Body is a collection of visual art and text that explores responses to themes of the body and space made by emerging female artists based in Ireland. Artists Elaine Howley and Róisín McGannon have been invited to speak about their artistic practises and work which will feature in the issue. A screening of work and discussion will follow.

Elaine Howley:
Elaine Howley is a Cork-based musician and producer. Howley is a member of the hypnotic, psychedelic quintet The Altered Hours and also plays in Crevice and Morning Veils.
Howley hosts the fortnightly radio show Cosmosis on Dublin Digital Radio. Her recent video piece Through the Silence, made in collaboration with Mary Kelleher, is discussed in the upcoming issue of Bloomers Magazine. Elaine will be screening this video as part of this event.

Róisín McGannon:
Róisín McGannon is a visual artist based in Dublin. Since graduating from NCAD with a BA Hons First Class in Fine Art Printmaking she has completed residencies in Block T supported by Fingal Arts and in Eoin Moylan Studio, Berlin. She exhibited in her first solo show supported by Fingal Arts in January 2019 in A4 Sounds and has exhibited in the RHA 188th Annual Exhibition Dublin and gone onto show work in Cork and Kerry. Róisín’s work is concerned with the unreliable and uncertain position of being in the body. Through multidisciplinary media she investigates the difference between the functional and the dysfunctional, both physically and emotionally, then in turn obscures and highlights expectation and capability.

Kim Crowley:
Kim Crowley is a visual artist based in Cork City and editor of Out of Body. She was an invigilator for the Irish Pavilion during the 2019 Venice Biennale and has produced SLAB, a zine examining architectural structures in the urban landscape made in collaboration with artists Niamh Murphy and Eamon Ivri.

Enid Conway:
Enid Conway is Artistic Director of Bloomers Magazine and collective and a freelance curator and designer. She founded and developed the Bloomers collective and edited the three previous issues. She is currently completing an MA in Goldsmiths London.
