Joan Jameson was the daughter of Sir Richard and Lady Musgrave of Tourin, Cappoquin, Co. Waterford. She was educated at home but spent two years at the Sorbonne in Paris and also studied at the Académie Julian.

Married to Capt. T.O. Jameson in 1920, they lived in London until 1929 during which time she exhibited solo shows and in group shows at a number of private galleries. On returning to Ireland she showed regularly in the exhibitions of the Royal Hibernian Academy, the Victor Waddington Galleries and the Irish Exhibition of Living Art.

Much of the vitality in Irish art between the wars was provided by a group of talented women artists who dominated the annual exhibitions of the Society of Dublin Painters and Jameson along with her friend Norah McGuinness were frequent exhibitors. She died in 1953.
